Decarbonization and sustainability: How to drive alumina and aluminium production towards carbon neutrality
Overview:
As presented during the ICSOBA, the topic of this 60-minute webinar centers around decarbonization and sustainability.
Industry leaders are committing to ambitious GHG emissions reduction targets to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 in alignment with Paris commitments. These commitments are well aligned with Hatch’s pursuit of positive change as we strive to deliver decarbonization solutions for our clients, leveraging our cross-sectoral engineering and project delivery expertise. Dominated by scope 2 emissions, alumina and aluminium production is energy intensive and considered hard to abate.
In this roundtable discussion, we explored what is possible and practical over the next five- and ten-year time horizons. What is required to achieve the next phase of decarbonization in alumina and aluminium production? What types of innovative technologies and processes will yield the most carbon reduction benefit? How can sectors that are hard to abate accelerate their decarbonization strategies through collaboration and synergies with peers, suppliers, and customers across the value chain?
Speakers included:
Frank Porretta, Managing Director, Climate Change
Dr. Trevor Bergfeldt Global Director Decarbonization and Sustainability
Stephan Broek, Director, Aluminium
Egon Linton, Process Consultant, Bauxite & Alumina
